ISL 2021-22: Hyderabad FC set up maiden summit clash date with Kerala Blasters

Panjim: Inspite of a 1-0 loss in the second leg, Hyderabad FC edged past ATK Mohun Bagan to reach their first finals of the Indian Super League. An aggregate score of 3-2 for the Nizams ensured their spot.  Nizams had come into the encounter with the 3-1 lead.

 

The Mariners had a chance on the goal as early as the seventh minute when defender Prabir Das, goy inside the box from the right flank. However, the front third of ATKMB fail to connect to the goal depriving them of a lead.  Three minutes later, Hugo Boumous set youngster Liston Colaco with a wonderful ball through the left flank but the effort is cleared away.

Hyderabad FC were not sitting idle in the first half as well. Towards the end of the first half,  Mohammed Yasir whipped out a cross from the left flank to Aniket Jadhav, who failed to connect the goal with only a short distance of five yards. However the Nizams were stripped off a deserving penalty when Kiyan Giri fouled Aniket while the later was in a run that could have ended in a goal.

Coming from the break with a 0-0 scoreline, Hyderabad FC continued to defend whole the Green and Maroon kept hurling their attacks. Lakshmikant Kattimani was forced to make a huge save out of Roy Krishna’s shot that was fed by Kiyan Nassiri himself in the 50th minute, keeping Kattimani’s team’s lead cushion intact. ATKMB got a huge scoring opportunity with a freekick some time later, however Colaco shot it wide.

The Mariners finally got the fruit of their incessant efforts in the 79th minute, when the much anticipated Roy Krishna finally found the breakthrough. Krishna could have brought in home the equalizer for the Kolkata giants in the 85th minute, but his shot was deemed offside by the lines person, despite the striker being onside of the goal.

Even with more efforts by both the teams the score line remained intact. With the win in the aggregate, Hyderabad FC will play Ivan Vukomanovic’s Kerala Blasters on March 20 in the finals of the eighth edition of the Indian Super League.
