Goa : Hyderabad FC remain top of the table with 5-0 win over NorthEast United in Indian Super League.
Bartholomew Ogbeche ignited the debate of league’s finest striker tonight. Ogbeche topped the league’s all-time scorrer list with his brace on both the halves. Ogbeche netted in the 3rd and 60th minute. This was Ogbeche’s 49th of the league with 14 from this season.
Hyderabad took three minutes to take the lead. Ogbeche(3″) slammed it rightly from a Joao Victor’s rebounded header. For the Highlanders, Marco Sahanek put some impression. The brief spell did not bear much fruit for them. After the first goal, the Nizams dictated the game and kept pressing the NorthEast United backline. In the added minutes of the first-half, Akash Mishra(45″) headed a Joel Chianese corner, putting the tally to 2-0.
Ogbeche doubled his tally at the hour mark. This turned him the league’s all-time top scorer. Sunil Chhetri and Ferran Corominas are now second with 48 goals. Chianese headed the ball to Ogbeche who nodded low with the ball scraping past the keeper into the net. Chianese deserved a goal for all his efforts. He almost had one after he got free from his marker but drilled his effort inches wide of the target.
There was drama in store Suhair Vadakkepeedika’s goal was disallowed after the striker thought he had pulled one back for the Highlanders. Poojary piled on the misery for NorthEast United, getting on the scoresheet after substitute Sahil Tavora put the ball on a plate for Poojary who ran in to hammer the ball hard and low, across the keeper.
Besides Ogbeche and Akash Mishra, Nikhil Poojary (84th) also found the back of the net. It was 5-0 with Edu Garcia(88″) joining the party with a late strike. Hyderabad FC consolidated their lead at the top, improving the goal difference. The Nizams have 26 points from 14 games. NorthEast United’s tumultuous season continued unabated as they remained on 10 points from 15 matches.
