Dubai : The much delayed 13th season of Indian Premier League (IPL) has started from September 19 at three venues in the UAE, which was originally scheduled to take place in the month of March, this year.

BCCI Signed a contract with Emirates Cricket Board on Saturday (September 19), which could mean that the 14th season of IPL, which is supposed to be happening in the next six months in 2021,could be again hosted in the UAE if the pandemic situation doesn’t improve in India. Though it is not confirmed but to be more specific, this MoU could make UAE a second option for India’s cash-rich home series if the bulge in COVID-19 cases continues.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah took to twitter to confirm this statement. “I, along with Vice Chairman of Emirates Cricket Board, Khalid Al Zarooni signed an MoU & Hosting agreement between @BCCI and @EmiratesCricket to boost the cricketing ties between our countries”, Shah posted. Shah was associated by BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and treasurer Arun Dhumal.

“There are two major events. England home series for which having it in India is still the first option. However, if the COVID caseload during January remains same, I guess it’s only fair that BCCI keeps an option B ready which could be UAE. Also the next big issue is IPL 2021 which starts late March, early April,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.
