KOLKATA, APRIL 6, 20206: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with full dominance by 43 runs in the 11th match of the IPL 2026 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The legendary rivalry witnessed RCB post a colossal 205/3, the highest-ever total recorded against CSK in IPL history. With an electrifying innings by Tim David (70 runs off 25 balls), the defending champions carried forward their season like true champions, finishing with a massive 250/3 — the highest total so far this season. On the other side, five-time title champions CSK suffered back-to-back losses, remaining winless after three matches this season.
The Southern Derby began with CSK winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. For RCB, Virat Kohli and Phil Salt came as openers, but Kohli lost his wicket early in the powerplay (c Shivam Dube b Anshul Kamboj), which was a breakthrough moment for CSK. However, that moment did not last long. At No. 3, Devdutt Padikkal came in and built a partnership with Salt. Salt was dismissed before reaching his fifty (c Noor Ahmad b Shivam Dube) after scoring 46 off 30 balls. Captain Rajat Patidar came in at No. 4. Devdutt played well but got out (b Jamie Overton) after scoring another fine knock, marking back-to-back fifties in two matches. Then Tim David came in at No. 5, and he, along with Rajat, built an unbeaten and immense partnership of 99 runs in just 37 balls. Tim David delivered a terrific innings of 70 off 25 balls with a strike rate of 280.00 and became the Player of the Match, while Rajat also played an outstanding knock of 48 off 19 ball. In the 17.4th over, Kamboj seemed to take David’s wicket, but unfortunately it was a no-ball. David reached his fifty in just 21 balls. In the 18th over by Jamie Overton, he accelerated massively, scoring (6, 2, 4, 6, 6, 6), with the last ball sailing over the stadium roof. In the last five overs, Rajat and Tim David smashed the bowling attack, taking RCB to 250/3 — the highest total of the season so far. The CSK bowlers tried to take wickets but were heavily dominated by the RCB batters.
The second innings started with openers Sanju and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad chasing the huge target of 251. They needed a strong start, but Jacob Duffy and Bhuvneshwar Kumar destroyed the top order. Ruturaj got out in the second over after scoring 7 off 3 balls (c Devdutt Padikkal b Jacob Duffy). Ayush Mhatre, who played well in the previous match, was dismissed early for 1 off 3 balls (c Rajat Patidar b Bhuvneshwar Kumar). Then Sanju was also dismissed (c Devdutt Padikkal b Jacob Duffy) after scoring 9 off 5 balls. At 30/3 in 3 overs, the disappointment was clearly visible. The pressure of the huge chase and early wickets down , showed RCB’s dominance. Sarfaraz Khan came in at No. 4 and played a good innings of 50 off 25 balls but was dismissed (st Jitesh Sharma b Krunal Pandya), helping CSK reach 77/4 after the powerplay. Krunal Pandya continued to make an impact, dismissing key batters. K. Sharma scored 6 off 3 (c Abhinandan Singh b Krunal Pandya), while Shivam Dube scored 18 off 13 (c Jitesh Sharma b Abhinandan Singh). Prashant Veer and Jamie Overton built a crucial partnership of 57 runs, scoring 43 off 29 and 37 off 16 respectively, before getting out. However, Kamboj, Noor Ahmad, and Matt Henry could not carry the chase further, and CSK were all out for 207 in 19.4 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar finished with figures of 3/41 and also achieved a monumental feat by becoming the second bowler in IPL history to complete 200 wickets.
RCB set their momentum with this glorious victory and moved to the top of the table with 4 points. They will face Rajasthan Royals on 10th April. Meanwhile, CSK will try to recover from back-to-back losses when they face Delhi Capitals on 11th April. It will be interesting to see how they bounce back and regain their rhythm in the league.
