Lucknow: Gujarat Titans (GT) secured a convincing victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 7 wickets (with 8 balls left), with a superb 4-wicket haul by Prasidh Krishna in bowling to restrict the LSG score to 164/8, and a great 84-run partnership between Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler ensured they chased down the target, in the 19th match of IPL 2026 at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
The match began with the toss won by GT, who chose to bowl first. Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh came to open for LSG, and on the ninth delivery of the match, Rabada dismissed Mitchell Marsh (c Shubman Gill b Kagiso Rabada) after scoring 11 in 8 balls. Then the captain came in at No. 3 and, along with Aiden Markram, started hitting big shots and took the score to 45/1 after four overs, but lost the wicket to Siraj (c Rahul Tewatia b Mohammed Siraj), scoring 18 in 11 balls. LSG ended up at 60/2 after the powerplay. After that, Prasidh Krishna took two crucial wickets in the middle overs and dismissed the well-set Aiden Markram in the 6.6 over (c Washington Sundar b Prasidh Krishna) after scoring 30 in 21 balls, and in 8.2 overs Ayush Badoni (c Glenn Phillips b Prasidh Krishna) was out for 9 in 11 balls. Then Nicholas Pooran came and also got out (c Shubman Gill b Prasidh Krishna); with that, Prasidh Krishna took his third wicket using effective short balls. LSG scored 110/5 with 5 overs left. With the quick falling wickets of LSG, it seemed tough to score above 150, but Shami and George Linde came as impact players and added valuable runs—Shami scored 12 in 5 balls and Linde 16 in 10—pushing the total to 164/8 for GT to chase after 20 overs, while 33 runs came in the last two overs. Shami played a quick and impactful knock with two boundaries. GT showed up with excellent bowling performance. Prasidh Krishna did a fantastic job and was the pick of the bowlers with a brilliant spell of 4/24, which also took him to the top of the Purple Cap leaderboard and made him the Player of the Match. Ashok picked up 2/32 in four overs, while Rashid and Siraj contributed one wicket each. This disciplined bowling effort not only removed LSG batters quickly but also restricted them from posting a big total on the board.
GT started their chase with Sai Sudarshan and Shubman Gill. They started with good intent, but Sai lost his wicket in 5.1 overs to Digvesh Rathi after scoring 15 in 14 balls. Then Jos Buttler came in at No. 3, and Gill and Buttler built a solid and strong partnership of 85 runs, which really took the match out of LSG’s hands. Both played outstanding innings and scored impressive half-centuries. Shubman Gill was dismissed for 56 off 40 balls by Prince Yadav, and with that innings, he completed 400 runs in IPL history. and Buttler got out after scoring 60 in 37 balls, dismissed by Shami. With 29 needed off the final few overs, Washington Sundar and Rahul Tewatia came in and finished the run chase successfully, scoring 165/3 in 18.4 overs. With this win, GT registered consecutive victories and moved to 5th position on the table with 4 points. Again, LSG looked to struggle with middle-order stability and early wickets falling. After two wins, they are now 6th with 4 points. GT will play against KKR at their home ground on 17 April, while LSG will face the defending champions RCB on 15 April. It will be interesting to see how GT carry their momentum forward and how LSG make a strong bounce back from this setback.
