New Delhi: This year’s T20 World Cup could be moved to the United Arab Emirates, which was scheduled in India between October 18 to November 15, if the Covid-19 crisis does not subside in India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Thursday.

BCCI general secretary said that the Indian cricket board is considering United Arab Emirates as the alternate option if Covid situation doesn’t improve in the country.

“I’ve just been named one of the tournament directors, so I’m doing everything we can to make sure it happens (in India). We will be doing normal scenario, COVID scenario and worst-case scenario, so with all that we’re talking to the ICC at the moment.” Malhotra said.

“It would be the UAE. We’re hoping again that it would be done by the BCCI. So, we’ll take the tournament there, but it’ll still be done by the BCCI.”  Dhiraj Malhotra was quoted as saying to BBC on Thursday.

Before the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country BCCI had shortlisted Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Dharamshala, Ahmedabad and Lucknow as the nine host venues. As India is going through with a frightening second wave of corona virus infection cases, keeping the current situation in mind UAE is the alternate option for T20 World Cup.

The T20 World Cup this year will be a sixteen team affair with teams to announce their squads one month before the competition.
