Chennai: Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has been fined Rs. 12 lakh after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their game against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Tuesday (April 20).

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has issued a statement saying the Mumbai Indians captain was fined for breaching IPL’s Code of Conduct of slow over-rate against DC.

“Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their IPL 2021 match against Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on April 20,” the IPL said in a statement.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Mr Sharma was fined Rs 12 lakh,” the statement further read.

The match was played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Delhi Capitals won the match against Mumbai Indians after successfully chasing 138 batting second. Amit Mishra was adjudged player of the match for scalping 4 wickets.

“After the start we got, I thought we could have batted well in the middle overs, which we didn’t do. We didn’t capitalise on the start in the powerplay, which we failed to do again. Credit to Delhi bowlers – they kept the pressure up and kept taking wickets,” Rohit told after the match.

“We knew dew was going to come in. We saw in the last few games that it’s not that difficult to grip the ball. Dew is not really the factor. You need to play smart cricket to win.” After the victory, Delhi Capitals moved to the second spot with three wins in four matches.
