Dubai: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 UAE saw another nail-biting encounter as Royal Challengers Banglore defeated Mumbai Indians in the Super Over after both the teams were tied on 201 after 20 overs.

Chasing RCB’s mammoth total, Mumbai were in dire straits losing skipper Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav early. South African Quinton de Kock too struggled a bit while Hardik Pandya’s didn’t do much of the talking as Mumbai were left to 78/4 in the 12th over.

But young Ishan Kishan and ever-reliable Keiron Pollard had other ideas. The duo started rebuilding the chase with the Indian left-hander showed great maturity throughout the innings and brought up his fifty hitting a six off leggie Adam Zampa. With 80 runs needed of the last four overs, Pollard decided to take the charge himself. The West Indies hit 27 runs of a Zampa over which included three huge sixes and a four to turn the match on.

The duo showed no respite for Yuzvendra Chahal in the next over as they hit the leggie for 22 runs including three sixes. With 19 runs needed off the last over, Sri Lankan Isuru Udana kept his cool, dismissed Kishan on 99 and conceded 18 to take the match in the Super Over.

In the Super Over, Navdeep Saini kept his cool to restrict Mumbai to seven runs which weren’t enough as Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers romped home to make it two wins for RCB. Earlier, both the openers Devdutt Padikkal and Aaron Finch scored half-centuries for RCB as the duo added 81 for the first wicket before the latter was out.

Kohli once again got out early but De Villiers rolled back the years as he started smacking the Mumbai’s rigid bowling attack in such a way than even a bowler like Jasprit Bumrah was finding it difficult to stop him. The former South African skipper scored a stunning 55 runs off just 24 balls. All-rounder Shivam Dube made a valuable contribution with a swashbuckling 27 of just 10 balls getting the total to 201/3 with 47 runs coming off the last three overs.

Brief scores: Royal Challengers Bangalore 201/3 (Devdutt Padikkal 54, Aaron Finch 52, AB de Villiers 55) beat Mumbai Indians 201/5 (Ishan Kishan 99, Keiron Pollard 60*) via Super Over.
