Tokyo: India’s lone shot putter at the Tokyo Olympics, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, failed miserably on Tuesday to finish poorly at 13th place in the Qualification Group A event at the Olympic Stadium.

The Asian champion and record holder booked his Tokyo ticket with a personal best of 21.49m at the Indian Grand Prix 4 in June. However, on Tuesday, Tajindarpal could manage 19.99m in his only legal throw out of three attempts.

Competing with a heavily bandaged shoulder, the 26-year-old finished 13th out of 16 competitors. New Zealand’s Tomas Walsh registered 21.49m to qualify directly for the final round.

The other two who qualify directly for the final are Brazil’s Darlan Romani (21.31m) and Egypt’s Amr Mostafa Hassan (21.23m). The top 12 from both groups combined qualify for the final.
