India to wear retro jersey for AUS series; Shikhar Dhawan shares picture

Sydney: Ahead of the much-awaited One Day International (ODI) series against Australia, India opener Shikhar Dhawan confirmed the news that India will wear the retro 1992 World Cup jersey and also unveiled the brand new jersey for the Men in Blue.

On Tuesday (November 24) Dhawan took to his social media handle to share a selfie of himself on Twitter, the 34-year-old wrote: “New jersey, renewed motivation. Ready to go.” 

The new jersey has a darker shade of blue and has a likeness with the 1992 World Cup jersey and has the names of the new sponsors Byju’s and MPL. Earlier The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced their partnership with MPL Sports. MPL replaced long time kit sponsors Nike in a three-year.

As part of a three-year deal, MPL Sports designed and manufactured jerseys will be worn by Men’s, Women’s and the Under-19 INDIAN cricket teams until 2023″ – BCCI said in a statement. Earlier, Team India had made customized the PPE kits, in which the Men in Blue traveled to Australia, in similar colour tone with the shoulder stripes.

Team India will wear the retro kit jersey for their three-match ODI series against Australia beginning from November 27. India will take on Australia in three ODIs, three T20Is and four Tests.
