Kolkata: India batter Suryakumar Yadav assured that he would be available whenever the  Indian skipper Rohit Sharma needs him.

”Everyone whenever we turn up for a good practice session we bowl for a couple of times. We don’t have enough bowlers in the end when our bowlers are batting. At that time, we get an opportunity to bowl so it’s a good thing. Whenever he needs me, I am there,” stated Yadav at the post-match conference of India-West Indies 1st ODI on Wednesday when asked about India’s plan of letting the top-order batsman bowl in the series.

Previously, on the eve of the India-West Indies opener ODI, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has stated, “Doors are open for everyone. We have not fixated on anyone. We need to prepare players accordingly, be it spin all-rounder, fast all-rounders, or lower-order batters.  We need to see the bowling options too, new ball, death overs, spinners in powerplays, etc. Right now, we are dealing with the options we have.”

Yadav played an important unbeaten inning of 34 off just 18 deliveries to guide India to a six-wicket win against the West Indies in Kolkata yesterday. He took the crease after India lost both Ishan Kishan and Virat Kohli in the space of four deliveries.

And for this achievement, he has hailed Venkatesh Iyer’s positivity that rubbed onto him during the chase against West Indies in the first T20I. “I think when Venkatesh Iyer came into bat, the way he came to bat, his positivity was completely different, that passed onto me. He started his innings with a boundary, I felt it was the perfect platform for both of us to finish the game,” said Yadav.

Yadav was also happy with debutante, Ravi Bishnoi, who ended with figures of 2/17 in four overs and also took home the Player of the Match award.

India has gained a 1-0 lead in the three-match series and the second T20I will now be played on Friday at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
