IPL 2020: BCCI president Sourav Ganguly visits Sharjah Cricket Stadium; applauds new look

Dubai: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly paid a visit to the Sharjah Cricket Stadium to take a review of the ongoing preparations for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.

This season the tournament has been shifted to the UAE due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and is slated to be played from September 19 to November 10 in the UAE across three venues – Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.

According to a media release issued on Monday, Ganguly said, “Young players are eagerly looking forward to playing in this hallowed cricket ground where greats like Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar wrote history.”

Famous Sharjah stadium all set to host IPL 2020

Posting the picture of himself visiting Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Instagram, Ganguly wrote: “Famous Sharjah stadium all set to host IPL 2020.”

Ganguly was accompanied by IPL chairman Brijesh Patel and COO Hemang Amin as the trio paid a visit to the stadium. Went down to the memory lane Ganguly has been part of many memorable ODIs at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. wherein the former skipper scored more than 700 runs, including a hundred and 5 fifties. 

Sharjah is the 1st of the 3 venues that Ganguly has visited and he is likely to visit the preparations at Dubai and Abu Dhabi as well, according to Gulf News.

The BCCI president had landed in the UAE last week, but as per protocols, he was in a six-day mandatory quarantine as per precautions measure against the Coronavirus.
