Mohali: The first test match was wrapped up nicely by India with a win by a humongous margin of an innings and 222 runs by day 3. Curtsey to Ravindra Jadeja, who had his personal best all round performance in the test format. His 175 not out batting performance paired well with his 9 wicket haul. He became the 5th person in the world to achieve a 150+ score and 5 wicket haul in the same match. Jadeja now holds the record of most runs in a test match while taking 5 wickets. Previously that title was held by Bangladeshi All-rounder Shakib Al Hassan.

India had declared with a mammoth 578 runs on the board which was too much to fight against for the Sri Lankans. Only Niroshan Dickwella came up with a half century for the Lankans but the wickets kept falling on the other end.

The spinners have been sensational on the pitch for the men in blue. Ravichandran Ashwin surpassed the former World Cup winning Indian captain Kapil Dev to be the second highest wicket taker with his 9 wickets in the two Sri Lankan innings.

The Sri Lankan batting side looked uncomfortable on the pitch in both the innings. The Mohali pitch was spin friendly but the likes of Lasith Embuldeniya couldn’t take full advantage of the pitch.

The Sri Lankans will be looking for a comeback in the second and final test. It will be held in M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on 12th March.
