Mohali: Ravichandran Ashwin has been Mr. Dependable for the men in blues for a decade now. His most recent achievement during the test against Sri Lanka puts his contribution to the team into perspective.

Ashwin has now surpassed Kapil Dev, one of the greatest players to ever grace the Indian jersey, as the second-highest wicket-taker for India. The former captain had a humongous tally of 434 wickets that Ashwin broke this Sunday with Charith Asalanka’s wicket.

The Spinner from Tamil Nadu had debuted for the Indian side in 2011. It only took him 85 matches to achieve this incredible feat. To put that in perspective, it had taken Kapil Dev 131 matches to earn those 434 wickets.

The spinners have been vital for the Indian side throughout the years but they once again showed their poise against Sri Lanka. Ashwin alongside Ravindra Jadeja had taken 9 wickets throughout the two innings. He now has an all-time tally of 436 test wickets.

Anil Kumble, who is hailed as one of the greatest spinners of all time is still the highest test wicket-taker for the men in blue with 619 wickets in his tally. According to the former Wicket Keeper and current commentator Parthiv Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin is more than capable to claim that crown for himself too in the near future.

The man himself would not mind a couple of more wickets in the upcoming final test match against the Sri Lankans in the Chinnaswamy stadium which is to start on 12th March.
