Bengaluru: On the second day of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru, India wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant made the fastest Test fifty as he reached his half-century in 28 deliveries. Pant smashed Kapil Dev’s nearly 40-year record for the fastest Test fifty by an Indian batter with his swift fifty.

In the Karachi Test in December 1982, Kapil Dev hit a 30-ball half-century while batting against Pakistan. Pakistan won the match by an innings and 86 runs despite his efforts.

India expanded their 143-run first-inning lead with some rapid scoring in their second innings after bowling Sri Lanka out for 109 early in the day’s play. Rishabh Pant, batting at No. 5, took command of the innings and targeted the opposing bowlers, allowing India to consolidate its lead.
