Manchester: Cristiano Ronaldo will be seen in his iconic No.7 jersey for his second stint at Manchester United after Edinson Cavani had agreed to give up the number to the man who created history on it.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to Edi (Cavani) for this incredible gesture,” said Ronaldo. Manchester United signed Ronaldo for a second time on Serie A transfer deadline day, taking the world by storm as the talisman returned to Old Trafford after 12 years.

Homecoming joys were cut a little short knowing that Ronaldo might not be able to wear his famous No.7 on his back given it was claimed by Edinson Cavani and Premier League forbade him to give it up.

However, the departure of young defender Daniel James to Leeds United has freed up the No.21 from the squad which Cavani agreed to take up after Premier League had given permission to the club for the switch. The switch would see the No. 7 belonging to the persona who had revolutionized the number for the Red Devils.

Ronaldo could not hold his emotions over getting his iconic jersey which was deemed almost impossible and wasn’t shy of showing his gratitude to Cavani for his gesture. “I wasn’t sure if it would be possible to have the number seven shirt again. So I would like to say a huge thank you to Edi (Cavani) for this incredible gesture,” the Portuguese said.

Ronaldo evidently expressed his delight over returning back to the place where it all started and his happiness was doubled after getting the chance to don his famous No.7. “I have a fantastic history with this amazing club. I was there at 18 years old and of course I’m so happy to be back home after 12 years.

“So I’m really glad and looking forward to starting my first game. I think it’s the best decision that I have made. It’s right on point in my opinion,” Ronaldo, the all-time international highest scorer, told the Manchester United website.

“I moved from Juve now to Manchester, it’s a new chapter, I’m so happy and glad, and I want to carry on again, to make history, to try to help Manchester achieve great results, to win trophies and number one of them, to win great things.”

Ronaldo was last seen in the Manchester United colours with the number on the back, in 2009 in the Champions League final against Barcelona before making his move to Real Madrid. He would be seen again on September 11 against Newcastle United causing a lot of nostalgia among fans as they reminisce about the past.
