FIFA likely to impose sanctions upon English clubs

London: The Premier League clubs might face FIFA Sanctions after they prohibited their international players from joining the national team commitments. Almost all the Premier League clubs decided in unison to not let their players off to the countries on UK’s red list.

If given permission, all these players would have to go through a mandatory 10-day hard quarantine that could hamper their club commitments. Chile called up Blackburn Rover’s Ben Brereton and Watford’s Francisco Sierralta for their international commitments this month.

Newcastle’s Miguel Almiron was selected by Paraguay and Wolves’ Raul Jimenez by Mexico to play the World Cup Qualifiers. All the four English sides have failed to reach an agreement with the respective National Football Associations forcing the FA to Lodge an appeal of sanction against the clubs to FIFA.

FIFA reportedly warned the clubs to release the internationals, lest the players would not be allowed to join in the club’s international window unless the national FA makes an exemption.

Argentina, Brazil and other South American countries along with Egypt are in the UK’s Amber list and Brazil Football Association have reportedly agreed to the absence of nine of the initially called players.

They are Allison Becker, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho (all Liverpool), Gabriel Jesus and Ederson (both Manchester City), Thiago Silva (Chelsea), Fred (Manchester United), Richarlison (Everton) and Raphinha (Leeds United).

The Egyptian FA also confirmed their agreement with Liverpool over Mohammed Salah’s abstinence from joining the squad to travel to Gabon. However, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur went ahead and let their internationals attend the national fixtures for Argentina.

FIFA had requested UK President for exemption of quarantine rules for the internationals which have been allegedly denied.
