London: Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and Toby Alderwerield helped Tottenham Hotspur kicking-off the new year in fine fashion beating Leeds United 3-0 in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Saturday(January 2).

Jose Mourinho’s men lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Toby Alderwerield being paired with Eric Dier at the heart of the defence. Harry Winks along with Pierre-Emile Højbjerg formed a double pivot in the middle of the park. Harry Kane lead the forward line alongside Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn with Tanguy Ndombele surprisingly playing as a no.10 behind them.

Right from the kick-off it was Leeds who started showing their intent going full-on attack putting pressure on the Spurs defence in the first few minutes. At home Spurs kept tight at the back and soon after hit back netting the opener. Bergwijn was taken down in the box by Ezgjan Alioski before Kane converting it from the spot drilling it straight down the middle.

Soon after Kane and Son put up a good show combining well and evidently extending the lead before the first half whistle when Harry Kane found Son with a gem of a delivery in the box and the South Korean slotted it past Illan Meslier for his 100th goal for the club.

In the second half, Spurs put the icing on the cake with Alderweireld, who headed it from a corner taken beautifully by Son. Despite dominating possession, Leeds were not backing it up with good finishing while leaving loop holes at the back proved costly for them.

A few chances came for Spurs in the rest of the second half but they failed to finish if off. Matt Doherty was sent off on the 92 minute for his challenge on Pablo Hernandez, but Spurs end the match taking full points to stand third on the league table with 4 points behind Manchester United.
