Kolkata : Indian former spinner Amit Mishra lashed out at captaincy skills of Indian youngster Shubman Gill in IPL 2024.
Gill took over Gujarat Titans captaincy after Mumbai Indians traded in Hardik Pandya.
Pandya led Gujarat in 2 IPL seasons, guiding them to winner (2022), runner (2023). Under Gill’s captaincy in 2024 , Gujarat was eliminated before playoffs qualification , ending at number 8 in points table.
Amit in a podcast, lashed out at Gill regarding his unsuccessful captaincy show in IPL 2024 saying, “I would not have made him the captain. I saw the IPL this season, and Gill doesn’t know how to captain the side. Gill is clueless. Just because he is a part of the Indian team, he shouldn’t be made captain. Gill has done well in the IPL over the last few seasons; he did fine with the Indian team as well. The Indian team made him the captain because they wanted to give him leadership experience, which wasn’t visible when he led the Gujarat Titans in the IPL”.
Shubman Gill recently led young Indian team to 4-1 victory against Zimbabwe in away T20I series. He’s also seen as a future contender of Indian captaincy.
