Haryana: Former India  all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was arrested in Haryana’s Hisar district for making casteist remarks on leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal last year.

A Hansi-based advocate, Rajat Kalsan, had lodged an FIR against Yuvraj Singh under various sections of the IPC and the SC/ST Act.
It has been reported that  Kalsan has been fighting this long battle for a year. Then in February earlier this year, police registered the FIR under Sections 153, 153A, 295, 505 of IPC, besides sections 3 (1) (r) and 3 (1) (s) of SC/ST Act against the World Cup-winning all-rounder after an enquiry into the complaint registered last year which alleged that the former cricketer had used a casteist slur against  Chahal.

The incident occurred  back in June last year when Yuvraj Singh jokingly made a derogatory remark towards Chahal during an Instagram Live session with India opener Rohit Sharma. While speaking with Sharma about Chahal’s famous Tik-Tok and Instagram videos, Yuvraj Singh made an indecent remark, which was of casteist in nature, aiming for the RCB leggie.

Soon after facing the outrage over his comment on social media,  he made an public apology and said that he was ‘misunderstood’ and added that he has never believed in disparity on the basis of caste, creed or gender.

“This is to clarify I have never believed in any kind of disparity, be it on the basis of caste, colour, creed or gender. I have given and continue to spend my life for the welfare of people. I believe in the dignity of life and respect each individual without exception. I understand that while I was having a conversation with my friends, I was misunderstood, which was unwarranted. However, as a responsible Indian I want to say that if I have unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments or feelings, I would like to express regret for the same,” Singh said in a post via Instagram.

However, he was soon released on interim bail in the case of making caste reference on the orders of the High Court. The police are reportedly in possession of his phone. The issue is expected to further drag out.
