T20 World Cup Australia: David Warner’s wife Candice silences critics

Dubai: Sport is a great leveller. Not too long ago, David Warner found himself in a tough spot. He was dropped from the Sunrisers Hyderabad Playing XI in IPL 2021 after two low scores, and for a couple of matches, did not even come to the ground opting to stay back at the hotel. A three-time Orange Cap winner, had a tough IPL this year. Warner was replaced as captain of the team and eventually lost his place in the side as well.

And here he is now, part of Australia’s maiden T20 World Cup winning side. Warner silenced his critics with a 38-ball 53 leading his side to World Cup glory in the T20 World Cup Final against New Zealand. Warner ended T20 World Cup as the second-highest run-getter, also bagged the Player of the Tournament award to prove once again.

David Warner’s wife Candice Warner has taken a sly dig at the critics of the Australian opener after Aaron Finch-led Australian side scripted history by winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 on Sunday. Earning absolution with his match-winning knock against Kane Williamson-led New Zealand.

Taking to Twitter after Australia’s historic win over the Black Caps in the summit clash, Candice poked fun at Warner’s doubters for questioning the inclusion of the veteran opener in the World Cup squad. “Out of form, too old and slow! @davidwarner31,” Candice tweeted. The post had the photo of Warner with “Player of the Tournament” written on it.

“Always felt really well. Didn’t get much time in the middle in the two practice matches obviously. But for me it was about going back to basics. Going to hard, synthetic wickets and try to hit some balls,” Warner said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
