Kolkata : Emami East Bengal clinched their 41st Calcutta Football League Trophy, defeating United Sports Kolkata 2-1.
Prior to this match, the Red and Yellow brigade were awarded 2024-25 season CFL trophy. This means, they won consecutive 2 trophies within 3 days.
East Bengal could have drawn on this day. However, East Bengal did not go into the game thinking of drawing against United. They played well from the start. The red and yellow footballers played aggressively. However, they had to wait to get a goal. Finally, David Lalansanga gave East Bengal the lead in the first half. In between, East Bengal’s David and Sayan Banerjee wasted one chance after another. United’s goalkeeper Ankan made some good saves.
United tried desperately to equalize in the second half. There was an increased enthusiasm in their play. On the other hand, East Bengal’s footballers seemed to have become a little more confident. That tension was not visible in the game of the red and yellow. United also equalized towards the end of the scheduled time. They scored in the 88th minute.
East Bengal’s self-respect seemed to be shaken by the goal. They went ahead again in the next minute. Shyamal Besra scored the goal. United could not repay that goal.
