Action during Indian Navy versus Delhi FC Durand Cup 2021 encounter

Kolkata: A late winner from Dalraj Singh saw Indian Navy edge past Delhi FC in their maiden encounter of the 130th edition of Durand Cup at Mohun Bagan Athletic Ground on Wednesday.

The regimental side was holding strong from the first half itself although Trinidadian Willis Plaza put the Delhi ahead on 21 minutes after an attacking move by Reinreithan Shaiza and Dawda Cessay. Four minutes later Sreyas VG equalised for Indian force when a cross by Nihal Sudeesh found him six yards into the box.

Delhi had a seemingly stronger squad with Sergio Barbosa, Ekom Philips and Cessay providing immense support to the Caribbean forward but the team lacked finishing along with the heroics of Navy custodian Bhaskar Roy that prevented them from extending the lead.

Although the second half saw a lot of goalmouth actions from both sides, there was no goal until the 86th minute when Dalraj scored a corner not long before he had denied Philips at the goal line keeping his team in the game. The regimental side bagged three points winning the game 2-1.
