Melbourne: Cricket Australia (CA) on Tuesday (August 4) announced the postponement of the three-match T20I series against West Indies which was scheduled in the first week of October.

The matches were slated to be held in Townsville, Cairns and the Gold Coast on October 4, 6 and 9 respectively. It was supposed to be a kind of preparatory series just before the scheduled t20 World Cup in Australia which got postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide.

The postponement of this series means that the players of both the Australia and Windies team will be available to play in the Indian Premier League from September 19 to November 10 in UAE.

“Together with Cricket West Indies, we have agreed to postpone the Twenty20 series originally scheduled for Queensland in October,” CA said in a statement. “Serving as warm-ups for the ICC T20 World Cup, the series will now coincide with the rescheduled T20 World Cup in Australia, in either 2021 or 2022,” it added.

Australia’s ODI series against Zimbabwe, which was scheduled to begin on Sunday has also been postponed. Earlier, Australia have already postponed a two-Test series against Bangladesh due to the ongoing pandemic. However, they will be hosting India from October.
