Chennaiyin FC, NorthEast United FC play out a six-goal thriller

Goa: Chennaiyin FC failed to hold on to their lead against NorthEast United FC as the match ended 3-3 at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim on Thursday. Lallinzuala Chhangte and Manuel Lanzarote were the scorers for Chennaiyin. For NorthEast there were three different scorers in Imran Khan, Deshorn Brown and Luis Machado.

The match started with a bang after Chhangte scored the first goal in the eighth minute. A left-footed finish from the Chennaiyin no. 7 which he received inside the box. Imran scored the equaliser for the Highlanders in the 14th minute from a Machado pass.

Brown hit back the Chennaiyin defence in the 43rd minute in a counter-attack. A right-footed bullet from the forward helped his side to take a 2-1 lead before half-time. In the second half, it’s like Chennaiyin came up with the courage of high hopes and Chhangte earned a penalty in the 50th minute after he was being fouled in the box by Ashutosh Mehta. Lanzarote scored and the score became 2-2.

It took two minutes for Chhangte to hit back the NorthEast defence with his sheer pace. They were up 3-2 and looked the likely side to win the match. But when things go good for a side, they eventually get benefitted. In the 93rd minute, the Highlanders earned a penalty which was scored by Machado and settled the match to a 3-3 draw.
