Chennai: Chennaiyin FC announced the signing of Bozidar Bandovic as the head coach ahead of the upcoming season of Indian Super League (ISL). The two-time ISL champions signed Brandovic for a year.

“I am delighted to join the Chennaiyin family. I am ready and cannot wait to start! After our conversations, I realised that this club is very special. I was very impressed,” Bandovic stated after signing the contract.

A former player himself, Bandovic has played for the likes of Red Star Belgrade, Olympiacos and POAK before moving into coaching full time. He coached Olympiacos for two years and has also been Head of Analysis for former Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde.

Brandovic’s most recent accolade includes successive Thai League titles in 2017 and 2018 with Buriram United. He also received the Thai League Manager of the Year award in 2018. Buriram reached their peak under him breaking their own records progressing into the Round of 16 of AFC Champions League, semifinal of Thai League Cup and finishing as runners-up in Thai FA Cup.

The signing of Brandovic brings in a lot of hope as Chennaiyin prepare ahead to redeem their lost glory in the ISL. The 51-year-old sounded enthusiastic and encouraging as he took up the position. “At Chennaiyin, I want us to be a team that knows what to do in different tactical situations while attacking, defending, and transitioning,” he said.

“My target is to improve the team and the players tactically, and individually. I did watch many games from last year and we will first evaluate and complete the team. Of course, I need more time to train the players to know them better,” said the former Yugoslavian national team youth player.
