Goa: Chennaiyin FC came up trumps against Odisha FC on Wednesday winning 2-1 at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim. Esmael Goncalves scored both the goals for Chennaiyin while for Odisha FC it was Diego Mauricio.
Odisha wanted to maintain their unbeaten run while Chennaiyin wanted to get into the top four race. The match started with Chennai attacking and trying to win every other loose ball. Isma came close to scoring in the 10th minute but failed.
In the 15th minute, it was Isma who opened the scoring and six minutes later scored the second. In the second half, Odisha coach Stuart Baxter made a crucial change bringing in Mauricio in place of Marcelino and it paid off for a bit.
The Brazilians scored a screamer in the 65th minute to reduce the margin. The goal certainly deserves a nomination for the Goal of the Week. The match went on end-to-end after that by Chennaiyin managed to hold on to their 2-1 lead and registered an important victory to kick start the second leg.
