Kolkata : There was a double header in the Bengal Super League on Saturday. FC Midnapore and Kopa Tigers Birbhum faced each other in the first match. The second match was Sundarban Bengal Auto FC versus North 24 Parganas. On the one hand, Midnapore got its first win in the BSL. On the other hand, Mehtab Hossain’s Sundarbans were stuck by North 24 Parganas.

On Saturday, the Midnapore footballers were confident from the start at home. They attacked the opponent’s defense one after another. But the deadlock was not broken at all. Rather, the expectation for the desired goal was increasing in the Midnapore camp. On the other hand, this match was also a fight for Birbhum to come back. They had nothing to lose except a draw. However, despite fighting a little in the first half, they fell behind at the beginning of the second half.

Arpan Seth gave FC Midnapore the lead in the 49th minute. After that, despite many attempts, the Kopa Tigers could not equalize. In the end, they won 1-0 and left the field with 3 points. After this victory, Midnapore reached the sixth place with 4 points from five matches with the help of one draw and one win. Birbhum is at the bottom with 1 point after winning no matches and one draw. Not only the 90-minute match, Midnapore also won the ‘special’ penalty shootout by 5-4 goals. Arpan received the man of the match award for leading the team to victory.

After winning four consecutive matches in another league match, Mehtab Hossain’s Sundarbans drew 1-1 against North 24 Parganas. After a goalless first half, Sundarbans took the lead with a goal from Aqib Nawab within 2 minutes of the start of the second half. Just when everyone thought they were on their way to winning five consecutive matches, that’s when the rhythm fell. North 24 Parganas equalized with a goal from Jomuan Sangar in the second half’s added time (90+1). The game ended 1-1. However, Sundarbans won 4-3 in the penalty shootout. Although they will not get any points for winning in the tiebreaker. Despite the draw, Mehtab’s team topped the points table with 13 points from five matches.
