Brisbane: Australia’s all-rounder Ellyse Perry has ruled her out of the rest of the limited-overs series against New Zealand due to a fresh hamstring injury. Earlier this year, during the T20 World Cup, Perry has already suffered a tear to her right hamstring for which she even underwent surgery.

The recent injury suffered by Perry was in a separate part of her right hamstring, which took place during a training session before the third T20I on September 30. This indicates the right-arm pacer will miss out upcoming three-match ODI series which was scheduled to be held on October 3,5 and 7, while her availability in the Women’s Big Bash League is also in doubt.

“Ellyse had been on track to play some part in this series but unfortunately she had some hamstring awareness, she’s got a low-grade strain so she won’t be available for the rest of this series, the Australia captain Meg Lanning said on Tuesday (September 29). “She will continue her rehab and training in the hope of being available at some point in the WBBL (but) she won’t be playing any part in this series,” she further added.

The 29-year-old right-handed batter Perry last featured for Australia in the group fixture against New Zealand in the T20 WC in March. While she was hopeful and positive about a return at some point during the happening series against New Zealand, a fresh injury has put paid to her aim.

“She is doing everything she can to be available as soon as possible,” Lanning added. “It’s a very complex injury and hard to get the timing on when certain things will happen. Hopefully (she will be available) at some point, she is doing the best she can and it’s really important to get it right.”
