Indian veteran Batter & former skipper Ajinkya Rahane signed English County Club Leicestershire for County Championship & One-Day Cup.
Rahane will participate in the teamâs final five games of the County Championship and play in the One Day Cup, where Leicestershire Foxes are the defending champions.
Rahane, joins Leicestershire to fill in for Wiaan Mulder, who will likely be traveling to the West Indies with the South African team in August.
For Team India, Rahane has scored over 8,000 runs, including 15 centuries. Heâs also the captain of the Indian side that conquered historic Australian series in 2022.
Rahane has over 26,000 runs across various formats including First-Class, List-A, and T20, boasting 51 hundreds with a top score of an unbeaten 265. He also captained Mumbai to Ranji title in the 2024 season.
âIâm really excited to have another opportunity to come to Leicestershire. Iâve built a strong rapport with Claude (Henderson) and Alfonso (Thomas), and Iâm looking forward to playing for the Club this summer,â Rahane said in a club statement.
âI followed the teamâs results last year and was very impressed with what I saw. Iâm hoping to enjoy my cricket and contribute to more success for the Club this season.â
Rahane is expected to arrive in mid-July, with his first contest being away to Notts Outlaws in the One Day Cup on July 24.
âWe are thrilled to welcome someone of Ajinkyaâs quality to Leicestershire. It was unfortunate that Ajinkyaâs schedule didnât quite work with ours last year. But, itâs a massive boost to have secured his services for the business end of this season,â commented Leicestershireâs Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson.
âHe holds immense experience and vital leadership qualities, which will be hugely beneficial to the team alongside his run-scoring ability. Ajinkyaâs arrival also presents a fantastic opportunity for our batters to learn from one of the gameâs best,â concluded Henderson.
