AIFF announces Indian Football Men’s squad for Asian Games 2023

New Delhi: AIFF announced 18-Member Squad for Asian Games 2023 on 13th September in China and thanked all ISL Clubs for their cooperation.

The Indian squad will be led by skipper Sunil Chhetri, over whose selection doubts were looming due to ISL Club contracts. Though defender Sandesh Jhingan and star goal keeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu are missing from the squad for the same reason, many new faces have appeared in the squad.

The other members who’re missing from this revised squad are Akash Mishra, Siva Sakthi Narayanan, Anwar Ali, Vikram Partap Singh, Naorem Mahesh Singh, Suresh Singh Wangjam, Jeakson Singh Thounaojam, Lalchungnunga, Roshan Singh, Apuia Ralte and Ashish Rai, due to Club bound reasons.

AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey thanked all the ISL Clubs and said , “It has been a hectic time for Indian football season this time. We have a tight schedule within a short period of time that was not easy to manage.

“There have been too many things happening, both at the domestic and the international level, involving India’s National Teams, as well as the ISL clubs. While the Senior National Men’s Team successfully completed playing a series of matches, they are also awaiting to play the Asian Games, followed by Merdeka Cup, World Cup Qualifiers, and the AFC Asian Cup.”

The Indian team will be competing in Asian Games after a gap of 9 years.
