Colombo : India defeat Sri Lanka by 41 runs in Premadasa Stadium, Colombo to enter into the Asia Cup 2023 Final. Kuldeep Yadav’s 4-fer helped Indian to bundle Sri Lanka before reaching their target.

Defending a total of 214 runs on a tough Spinning track, Indian pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj gave early break throughs, dismissing the top 3 Sri Lankan Batters, soon with the introduction of Kuldeep Yadav , he grabbed 2 quick wickets of Asalanka and Samawickrama, and Jadeja picking skipper Dasun Shanaka. With the score being 99/6 , it seemed the battle will end quickly but young all rounder Dunith Wellalage and Dhananjaya De Silva started to built up a match winning partnership, with a stand of 63 runs, it seemed it game is out of India’s hands, but Silva played a poor short off Jadeja to Shubman Gill at mid on, and the match yet again turned in India’s favour, with Wellalage fighting a lone battle, Kuldeep Yadav completed his 4-fef by wrapping the tail quickly and securing an important victory to enter the final.

Earlier in the 1st innings, India opted to bat first, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill yet again went off to a flying start, adding a 80 runs stand and Rohit scoring his 50 , but things began to turn in Sri Lanka’s favour with the introduction of Dunith Wellalage, who trapped Indian middle order , dismissing Kohli, Rohit, Gill, Pandya, and set Rahul. Along with him, part timer Charith Asalanka picked up 4 wickets and Maheesh Theekshana 1 wicket, thereby bundling out India on 213 runs, though couldn’t chase it later.

With this win, India not only entered the Asia Cup final but also ended Sri Lanka’s 13 Match ODI winning streak. Dunith Wellalage was awarded Man of The Match for his all round performance – 5-fer and heroic 42*. Sfu Lanka will now face Pakistan on 14th September , the winner would take on India on 17th September.
