FIFA suspends AIFF, takes away hosting rights of Women’s U-17 World Cup from India

Zurich : FIFA suspends All India Football Federation (AIFF) because of “third party intervention”. FIFA has also deprived India of it’s hosting rights for the U-17 Women’s World Cup . The Indian squad is being suspended with immediate effect which terms that the Indian National Football Team will not be able to play any international games until the suspension is removed.

Indian National teams (both men and women) cannot play any junior or senior international games. The Indian clubs also will be not allowed to participate in AFC Champions League, AFC Cup and AFC Women Club Championship.

The official statement reads, “The Bureau of the FIFA Council has unanimously decided to suspend the All India Football Federation (AIFF) with immediate effect due to undue influence from third parties, which constitutes a serious violation of the FIFA Statutes.”

The suspension are going to be lifted only when an order to set up a committee of administrators to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee that has been repealed. As of now, the AIFF administration regains full control of the AIFF’s daily affairs.

Sunil Chhetri’s Reaction

After the suspension, Indian men’s team captain Sunil Chettri said,  “People who are involved are doing their best to make sure that we are going to come out with the best results possible. Everyone is working hard towards it. As far as players are concerned we are going to make sure that we do our work properly.”

“We have to make sure you better yourself as a player. Whenever you get an opportunity to represent your club or your country, put your best foot forward. All other verticals in the AIFF are trying to fix as much as possible to make sure that they come out with flying colours,” Chettri said.
