Kolkata : BCCI is the only Cricket Board that doesn’t allow it’s players to participate in foreign leagues. The players need to cut all ties with the board to participate in other leagues.

With the advent of the new South African T20I league, all the teams there are owned by IPL franchises , and Chennai Super Kings are owning Johannesburg franchise.

The legendary Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was been rumoured to be the head mentor of the said franchise, but BCCI has answered the curiosity , with some strict instructions.

According to the rules of BCCI, no Indian player can feature in a foreign league unless he has cut ties/ retired from all forms of Cricket in India, including Domestic and International.

The board official said, “It is clear that no Indian cricketer, even domestic cricketers, can join any other league before retiring from all forms of sports. If any Indian player wants to join the new league, all ties with the BCCI must be severed.”

Though Mahendra Singh Dhoni has retired from International Cricket, and he doesn’t play domestic, but he’s still associated with Chennai Super Kings and an active player, in other words, he hasn’t retired from IPL. Thus, answering all these rumours BCCI concluded, “If he wants to be a mentor in the South African league, he will not be able to play in the IPL. You have to retire from here first”.

A few months ago, it was rumoured that BCCI is thinking to allow Indian players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to feature in foreign leagues like Big Bash League, The Hundred, etc but now the statement of BCCI regarding these have shattered hopes of the fans for seeing their favorite Indian players in foreign leagues.

Earlier, star Indian Players like Irfan Pathan, Yuvraj Singh, Munaf Patel, Pravin Tambe, Yusuf Pathan, etc were the players who retired from all formats, domestic, IPL and participated in foreign leagues like Global T20 Canada, T10 League of Dubai, Lankan Premier League, etc.
