Budapest: Germany defeated Portugal in a 4-2 in a mouth-watering Group F Euro 2020 encounter on Saturday. Meanwhile, Spain and France settle for a draw with Poland and Hungary respectively. With this win, Germany keep their knockout hopes alive having lost the opener.

Germany’s win against Portugal got their hopes for knockout qualifications alive. Coming from a win against Hungary, Cristiano Ronaldo put Portugal in front on 15 minutes from a Diogo Jota assist.

However, things took a drastic turn for the defending champions went into backfoot soon with two own goals in the first half itself, thanks to Ruben Dias (35th) and Raphael Guerreiro (39th). Germany finally had their name on the scoresheet when Kai Havertz made it 3-1 with an assist from Robin Gosens.

Gosens was in action once again as the midfielder scored past Rui Patricio under the Portuguese bar on the hour mark to take the match away. Jota reduced the lead for Portugal in the 67th minute but that enough. Germany rose to the top of the group on goal difference.

“Overall it was an outstanding performance from the team, great attitude, great spirit, we had many chances, outstanding,” Low said after the match.

In another match in Group F, the top spot still belongs to France with four points after being held in an 1-1 draw against Hungary. Antoine Greizmann rescued France at 67th minute, after Attila Fiola gave Hungary a lead in the added time of the first half. In another game later that night of Group E, Alvaro Morata and Robert Lewandowski scored for their respective sides as Spain and Poland earn a hard-fought 1-1 draw.
