Goa: NorthEast United FC made a statement on Saturday beating league leaders Mumbai City FC 2-1 at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim. Deshorn Brown scored a brace for NorthEast and for Mumbai it was Adam Le Fondre.

The match started with a bang after Brown scored the opener in the sixth minute. The Jamaican, who came on loan from Bengaluru FC, was in action again three minutes later putting the Highlanders on top inside 10 minutes.

Down by two goals early on, Mumbai started to push with Hugo Boumous, Bartholomew Ogbeche upfront but fell prey to an astute NEUFC defence that was hard to break.

In the second half, Mumbai coach Sergio Lobera took a bold decision as he subbed his defensive wall Mourtada Fall bringing in Le Fondre. The move paid off as the Australian reduced the margin in the 85th minute of the match but it wasn’t enough to save the match.
