Kolkata : After retiring from international Cricket amidst Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Indian legendary spinner Ravichandran Ashwin had announced announced his retirement from IPL this week. Therefore, as per rules, Ashwin is now a free bird ready to explore overseas leagues. And he is open to dual role of player cum coach.
Ashwin, now 38, has Cricket left in him and intend to explore and play the overseas leagues.
As per Cricbuzz, Ashwin targets English league The Hundred, US league – Major Cricket League, and either of UAE’s ILT20 or South Africa’s SA20.
According to reports, officials from many leagues including Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) have reached out to him after his announcement of IPL retirement.
A coach cum player role fits perfect for him. Ashwin has no dearth of options post retirement, he can even work as Cricket commentator or analyst, owing to his great Cricketing brain.
It is also believed that some of his out of box suggestions to the last IPL retention rules came through his inputs to BCCI. For now, his focus remains extending playing career for the few years left.
Ashwin, however, didn’t spell out his plans and merely said, “I really want to enjoy my last couple of years hopefully without any judgement from anyone. I wanna live life on my own terms”.
