Kolkata : Commonwealth Gold Medalists Mirabai Chanu, Jeremy Lalrinnunga, Achinta Sheuli and 5 other Indian Top Weightlifters will be training in USA for almost 20 days for the World Meet. They will be doing strength and conditioning (S&C) training camp in St. Louis, US.

All the senior and medal holder weightlifters at Commonwealth Games will miss this year’s Asian Championships. The Indian Weightlifting Federation make this decision to focus on the World meet. This is because the world meet is an event of qualifying direct for the Paris Olympics. The Asian Championships will be taking place in Bahrain from October 6 to 16. Indian Junior weightlifters will be taking part for the event. Weightlifting Federations are eyeing for a Team B, which will help to build a strong team for Indian in the upcoming days.

“We will be in USA for 23-24 days. It is the off season so we will have a strength program there,” Sharma quotes to PTI.

He also adds “All these lifters have small niggles like Gurdeep has some issue in his wrist. Sanket will go through proper rehab. We want that everyone is perfectly fit for the World Championships.”

Indian senior lifters at St. Luois in USA will be working with Dr. Aaron Horschig, who is a former weightlifter and now a physical therapist – strength and conditioning coach.
