Chennai: Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council chairman Brijesh Patel on Thursday (February 18) announced that Chinese firm, VIVO is back as the title sponsor of the 14th edition of the cash-rich league.
Patel’s announcement came during his inaugural address for the IPL 2021 Auctions in Chennai. “Vivo is back, this edition to be announced as VIVO IPL 2021, welcome back Vivo,” said Patel.
Earlier last year, VIVO had pulled out as sponsor of the Indian Premier League following a backlash on social media. VIVO had paid an approximate amount of 199 crores in 2018 in a five-year contract with the BCCI. Dream11 became the IPL title sponsors for 2020 by winning the rights for Rs 222 crore, nearly half (Rs 440 crore) of what VIVO was paying annually for a five-year deal.
