Virat Kohli in legal trouble, issued notice by Kerala High Court

New Delhi: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday (January 27) issued a notice to Indian skipper Virat Kohli, on a petition seeking ban for endorsing online rummy gaming that involve financial transactions. Along with Kohli, the notices were also sent to actress Tamannaah Bhatia and Aju Vargheese. Brand ambassadors play an important role in getting youth addicted to the online games, hence the notice.

The petitioner had complained to the high court that several people have lost their lives in the country after losing huge amounts of money by playing the online game and that it should be banned. The court has also asked for a reply for the same from Kerala government on this, according to news agency ANI.

Vineeth, 27, had lost Rs 21 lakh on this online game and committed suicide at Kuttichal in Thiruvananthapuram a fortnight ago. Sajesh, 32, who had lost a huge amount playing online rummy told IANS: “The intervention of the honorable High court is welcome as I know that several people have lost huge amount of money playing this online game and I myself have lost more than Rs 6 lakh.”

“The brand ambassador’s indeed play a big role in attracting the gullible youth in playing this game which soon turns into an addiction. I had to seek professional medical help to come out of this addiction and the court must ban this game in India.” he added.

Earlier, advocate A P Suryaprakasam,  had filed a petition charges of abatement to suicide for misguiding youngsters on the issue of online gambling and endorsing such sites to the Madras High Court in August 2020. Seeking the arrest of Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli and actress Tamannaah Bhatia for endorsing online gambling sites, which is taking the lives of innocent youngsters.
