Kolkata: FC Goa midfielder Edu Bedia, has been on the spotlight for a while now. In Fact, the Spaniard despite signing in 2017 only managed to get the regular playing time since the last season. However, it was his free kick in the extra-time that gave Goa their hands on the Durand Cup at the Salt lake Stadium on Sunday(October 3).

However, as far as Goa’s fans are concerned, the Spaniard has always been a leadership material. The Gaurs had fans in the stand in Sunday’s final when they beat the Kolkata giants Mohammedan Sporting 1-0.

“Around 11 people traveled all the way from Goa to Kolkata, some by train, some by flight,” said Feizico De Costa, an avid FC Goa fan who was one of those 11 to have made the trip to the Salt Lake stadium all the way from the Western coastal region.

Asked about Bedia’s abilities before the game, the fans had labelled him as ” a man to go for” which turned out to be exactly the same later the evening when the FC Goa skipper was running the midfield by his own, collection the balls from his defenders and keeping the tempo of the game within his control.

Besides that, the tournament itself has made quite a buzz back in Goa, Mallysa, another one from the FC Goa fan club spoke about how she felt the excitement of this game.

“We are very happy actually about our team’s achievements so far. Because most the games have fallen, most of the fans were unable to make the trip. However, back in Goa, we have put up the screenings all over the region which have made the fans sticking together. So We are very much excited.” She added in her statement.

The Durand Cup has somehow been the tournament for keeping an eye on the reserve squad for Goa and fans spoke about that some of the players from these title winning side could make it to the first team as well mentioning the names like Leander D Cunha, Brandon Fernandes, Princeton Rebello and Saviour Gama.
