Tokyo Paralympics: Rahul Jakhar finishes fifth in Mixed 25m pistol event

Tokyo: India’s Rahul Jakhar finished fifth in the Mixed 25m Pistol SH1 final at the Tokyo Paralympics on Thursday, missing out on a podium victory nearly. He had previously secured second place with 576 points that include 284 in precision and 292 in the rapid stage after the qualification event’s precise and fast rounds.

Earlier, Jakhar was ranked 13th after the precision round of the qualification event, with a total of 284 points. In the quick round, Rahul achieved 292 points to advance to the event’s final. It was Jakhar’s best performance till date.

Another Indian in the event, Akash was unable to qualify for the final due to his low score of 551 points (278 in precision and 273 in rapid) in the qualification round. China’s Huang Xing managed to defend his 2016 Rio Olympics gold. Szymon Sowinski of Poland took silver, while Oleksi Denisiuk of Ukraine returned home with bronze.

India has won two medals in shooting up to this point. The first was Avani Lekhara’s remarkable gold in the women’s 10m air rifle SH1 competition. Later, Singhraj Adana won bronze in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event.
