Tokyo: India‘s Vikas Krishan suffered a shock 0-5 defeat at the hands of Quincy Mensah Okazawa to bow out of the men’s 69kg category boxing event first round at the Tokyo Olympics on Saturday. The Japanese will next face Cuba’s third-seeded Roniel Iglesias in the round of 16. Iglesias is the 2012 London Olympics gold medallist and also a former world champion.

One of the Indian boxing prospects at the Tokyo Olympics, Krishan was no match for Okazawa failing to put up a fight to bow out tamely and will return home empty-handed.  The 29-year-old Krishan also sustained a cut below his left eye in the high-voltage clash.

Okazawa used the ring brilliantly with his nimble-footed steps against the two-time Olympian Indian. On Sunday, six-time world champion Mary Kom (women’s 51kg) and Commonwealth Games silver-medallist Manish Kaushik (men’s 63kg) will compete in their opening bouts.
