Goa: FC Goa’s Jorge Ortiz has stated it’s all about the team game, instead of his own statistics that have led to their strong performance in this year’s Indian Super League so far. Ortiz has scored one and created the most number of chances in the top half this season.

“See every football players love these numbers. The aim is to help the team as much as possible, that’s what I try as well. As you have mentioned about my high stats show how the team has been working as a unit. The most important thing for me is always success keeping the stats aside. If not me someone is contributing to the team and that’s what the team needs,” Ortiz said ahead of their match against ATKMB on Tuesday (December 15).

The 28-year-old has played a pivotal role for FC Goa this year and according to experts, any foreigner coming to India at this age wasn’t seen in the recent past, as big names generally come to this country past their prime.

“I just thought the project which they have presented has been quite good. It’s not just for the present but also for the future. I always wanted to showcase my skills in the best possible manner. And so far the decision to play here has come up positive for me. I think it will be helpful for me in the future,” said Ortiz.

Ortiz who is basically a winger has been playing a free role in the Gaur’s attack. He has been cutting in from the wing to help and create chances for his side. Speaking about his easy playing role, “Yeah it’s the training session which we have been working on that has made this thing easy. Helps us to be in a shape and helps me to play this free role.

“But it’s not just for me but for the team as well. And every game is different and we need to stick to the plans what the coach tells us. We try to make it as much as possible in every match and try to earn maximum possible points from the matches,” he said.

Ortiz can be a key man for the Gaurs in the ATKMB match. His fierce run and killer instinct can change the course of the game and certainly a player to watch out for on Wednesday.
