Tammy Abraham hat-trick helps Chelsea sail into FA Cup fifth round

London: Tammy Abraham scored a hattrick in a 3-1 win over second-tier Luton Town on Sunday (January 24) and booked the place in the FA Cup fifth round away to Barnsley.

Chelsea took the lead on 11 minutes when a quick throw-in caught Luton’s defence by surprise and allowed Timo Werner to make a run down the right channel. He then cut the ball back for Abraham who fired a low shot past Simon Sluga.

Abraham doubled the lead of his team, six minutes later when he flicked a header from Reece James’ cross past Sluga, whose indecisiveness saw the ball sail over him into the net.

Luton managed to score one and their only goal on the half-hour mark when Kepa Arrizabalaga failed to keep out Jordan Clark’s low effort which then squeezed between his hand and leg into the net on 30 minutes.

Chelsea began to dominate yet again in the second half and the subbing on, of Callum Hudson-Odoi, had an almost instant impact as his one-two with Billy Gilmour allowed Abraham to get his third with a simple tap-in on 74 minutes and completed his hattrick.

Werner had his penalty saved by the Luton goalkeeper and failed to make it 4-1 after he was fouled by Clark. Chelsea’s would next face Barnsley who beat Norwich City 1-0 on Saturday (January 23)

“It’s great to score a hat-trick and win so comfortably. Luton are a good side. It’s always nice to get a win. Hopefully we can build off that form now. We have a game on Wednesday and hopefully, we can build on the confidence from here,” Abraham said after scoring the hattrick for his team.
