Subhadra Memorial Trust unveils new cricket academy at Kolkata

Kolkata: 72nd Republic Day flagged the opening ceremony of the inaugural cricket academy of Subhadra Memorial Trust in Udayrajpur Netaji Sangha Club in Madhyamgram, Kolkata. The academy however, is namesake the trust.

Shuvagata Home, ex-right handed batsman to represent Bangladesh national squad, Arnab Nandi, current Bengal Ranji player and East Bengal captain, and Vivek Singh, current Bengal Ranji and Mohun Bagan player along with many aspiring young cricketers and board members for Subhadra Memorial trust were in attendance for the successful opening of the academy.

The academy will be functional from the first week of February 2021 and would provide cricket coaching to aspiring boys and girls with modern cricket facilities, to further strengthen grass root cricket in suburbs of West Bengal.

Shuvagata in his speech expressed the importance of grass root training and said “The grassroots should be given importance since players are made from that level.”

While Vivek was nostalgic while visiting the venue and added “I have played at the Netaji Sangha Club and has a lot of memories associated with the club. I hope there will be many players in the future from the club who will be playing for Bengal and the national team,” Vivek said.

Arnab was happy with the infra structure of the academy and said “The facilities that this academy is providing to the players is amazing and if the junior players get such good infrastructure, and proper guidance then they will definitely yield good players.”
