Kolkata: England pacer Stuart Broad had been fined 15 per cent of his match fee after he was found guilty of breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first Test match against Pakistan in Manchester.

Broad was held responsible for breaching Article 2.5 of ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which mentions of ‘using language, actions or gesture which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match’. The incident took place during the 46th over of Pakistan’s second innings on Saturday (August, 8th) as Broad dismissed Yasir Shah and used some inappropriate language.

Broad had admitted his act of offense and accepted the sanction proposed by his father, Chris Broad who is a member of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees and endorsed by the ICC Cricket Operations department with respect to the ongoing COVID-19 playing regulations.

This breaching act added one demerit point to the disciplinary record of Broad. This was his third offence within the tenure of 24 months, piling his cumulative demerit points to a total of three. Previously, Broad faced breaching issues on January 27 this year while playing his fourth Test against South Africa and in 2018 during the third Test against India at Trent Bridge.

It is said that there was no need for a formal hearing regarding this issue. The charges had been levelled by on-field umpire Richard Kettleborough and Richard Illingworth, third umpire Michael Gough and fourth official Steve O’Shaughnessy.
