Spain avenge Euro defeat ending Italy’s 37-game unbeaten run

Milan :Spain dominated Italy at San Siro stadium to end their 37 match unbeaten record and defeated the European Champions, to reach the final of UEFA Champions League. Spain won the match 2-1 against Italy on Thursday ( October 7).

Spain took lead through Ferran Torres’ strike on 17 minutes. He picked up a cross from Mikel Oyarzabal and struck past Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. To make matters worse the Azzuris were down to 10 man when Leonardo Bonucci was sent off for a tackle on Sergio Busquets on 42 minutes.

Luis Enrique handed Gavi his national team debut on this tough outing as he became the youngest player to debut for Spain at 17 years and 62 days. The La Masia graduate and current FC Barcelona player had quite an impactful debut for his national side.

During their last meet, Italy defeated Spain in Euro 2020 semifinal on penalties, to advance to the next round. Although Roberto Mancini’s side were outclassed for this fixture. Torres doubled the lead for Spain when he headed home a fine cross from Oyarzabal again.

The match was not quite over, when  Lorenzo Pellegrini pulled one back for his team on 83 minutes, to make matters more tense. Although they were not able to find the equaliser within time as Enrique’s men advanced to the final where they will face the winner of France and Belgium match.

“It’s been a very good game. We both proposed our football. We generated danger and we put pressure on them just as they did on us as you expect from the European champions. I’m very happy. We had one and a half training sessions, so I’m delighted. We were brave and had the right attitude. I’m privileged because I have 50 players,” Enrique said after the match.
