SL vs NAM, ICC T20 World Cup 2022: Namibia upset Sri Lanka in opener

Geelong : Namibia begin their World Cup campaign with a sparkling win over Asia Cup 2022 champion Sri Lanka by a huge margin of 55 runs. The Simonds Stadium was remained stunned to see a major upset in the beginning of the ICC T20 WC, 2022.

Chasing a total of 164 in 20 overs, Sri Lanka never seemed to get control in the game as they continued to lose wickets at regular intervals without any big partnerships. Although a small partnership began to form between Bhanuka Rajapaksa & skipper Dasun Shanaka, it went in vain, as the duo who’re the pillars of the back bone fell, along with the lower order, getting dismissed for a mere total of 108 runs, thereby starting the campaign with a crushing defeat. Namibian bowlers namely David Wiese, Ben Shikongo, Jan Frylinck, Bernard Scholtz picked up 2 wickets each, thus, shattering the Sri Lankan Batting order .

Earlier in the 1st innings, Namibia batting 1st also didn’t start well, as they too lost wickets in quick intervals. Namibia were 93-6 after 15 overs, when the duo Jan Frylinck & JJ Smit added a 70 runs stand between themselves, scoring 44(28) & 31*(16) respectively, setting a total of 163 runs at the end of the innings.
