Dambulla : Sri Lanka defeated India by 8 wickets in Women’s Asia Cup 2024 Final at Rangiri Stadium, Dambulla, to clinch maiden Asia Cup title.
Chasing 166 runs, Sri Lanka lost Vishmi Gunaratne (1) on 7 runs. However, Chamari Athapaththu (61), Harshita Madhavi (69*) built a 87 runs partnership.
Even after Chamari’s dismissal Harshita continued to take game away from India, accompanied by a fiery cameo from Kavisha Dilhari (30*), building 73 runs partnership.
Sri Lanka chased down the total in 18.4 overs to achieve the historic feat.
In 1st innings, Sri Lankan bowlers slowed down Indian batters right from the beginning. Despite Smriti Mandana’s (60) knock, Sri Lanka had upper hand. Richa Ghosh (30) gave aggressive finishing touch to the innings, taking the score to 165-6 (20).
Harshita was adjourned the Player of The Match.
Chamari was the Player of The Series following her 304 runs Asia Cup campaign being the highest run scorer.
